Ballet West Brings "Peter Pan" to Life with Breathtaking Aerial Choreography
Ballet West presents Utah’s premiere of Trey McIntyre's mesmerizing reimagining of J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan, running Feb. 13 through 22 at the Janet Quinney Lawson Capitol Theatre in Salt Lake City. This production is unlike any other Ballet West has brought to the stage, with choreography that takes to the air and requires in-depth training.
“This production requires extensive flying rehearsals—even more than our Nutcracker and Dracula productions, and the aerial choreography is truly spectacular," notes Ballet West Artistic Director Adam Sklute. “With this version of Peter Pan, McIntrye stays true to the original story in so many ways. It is a tale of the transition from child to adult, reminding us that we can maintain our child-like wonder as we grow older.”
Since its 2002 premiere at Houston Ballet, McIntyre's Peter Pan has captivated audiences across the country with its unique approach to the timeless tale. Unlike other adaptations, this production explores deeper emotional themes while keeping the magic and playfulness audiences love.
The production features fanciful costumes by renowned Broadway designer Jeanne Button, imaginative sets by Tom Boyd, and ethereal lighting by Christina Giannelli, whose designs create magic by cleverly hiding flying wires and adding shimmer to every scene. The score, an arrangement of the music by Edward Elgar, played live by the Ballet West Orchestra, creates a truly immersive theatrical experience for audiences.
Perfect for families and ballet enthusiasts alike, this enchanting production promises an evening of wonder, adventure, and a timeless reminder to believe in the power of imagination.
