Join us for Season 60!
We are excited to announce Ballet West’s 60th Anniversary Season. From its humble beginnings in 1963, as the only professional ballet company between Chicago and the West Coast, Ballet West has grown into one of America’s leading and largest ballet companies. This season is our gift to all of you and your continued support.
This season continues the historic legacy showcasing the Company’s technical athleticism, artistic excellence, stylistic versatility, and striking elegance, complete with the richness and depth of its own live orchestra. Back by popular demand to open the season is Dracula, a wild ride of challenging choreography set to the ominous music of Franz Liszt.
November’s Firebird brings a mix of audience favorites to celebrate the 60th season. The folktale of a magical, flaming bird in The Firebird, is an original piece choreographed by Ballet West’s founder, Willam Christensen. The program also includes the world premiere of Fever Dream by long-term company artist Joshua Whitehead, immersing the audience into a dream-like world, followed by the pure showmanship and creative genius of George Balanchine’s quintessential Stars and Stripes.
The Nutcracker, hailed as the first and longest-running in America, returns for the holidays, followed by the epitome of ballet classics, Swan Lake, a fantasy showing how love is the only triumph of good over evil. In April, Love and War will show the company’s strength and versatility with the Utah Premiere of Blake Works I, by one of the world’s most renowned contemporary choreographers, William Forsythe; Red Angels, a passionately-charged work highlighting dancers’ athleticism; and Kurt Jooss’ 1932 antiwar masterpiece, The Green Table.
The season concludes with the Choreographic Fest VI, bringing several international guest companies to the stage with new choreography and diverse Asian voices. Beauty and the Beast, a Family Classics series add-on, is specifically designed for children. Come experience the continuing legacy of Ballet West that keeps families and friends coming back year after year.
