Joined Ballet West II: 2021

Kye Cooley is from Bowie, Maryland. She joined Ballet West ll in 2021 and was promoted to the main company in 2023. Kye started dancing as a competitive dancer in multiple genres before transitioning to ballet. She trained at the Washington School of Ballet School  under Xiomara Reyes and Julie Kent, then went on to receive a full merit scholarship to the School of American Ballet. Kye has won multiple gold medals at international ballet and contemporary competitions such as Valentina Kozlova International Ballet Competition.

She has performed honorary roles choreographed by Mimmo Miccolis at the Italian Embassy and the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. Kye has choreographed works for the School of American Ballet’s choreographic workshop and the Washington School of Ballet’s choreographic showcase. Between 2016-2018, Kye performed as a guest artist for the Harlem School of the Arts. She was featured in the Disney+ documentary series “On Pointe” while attending the winter term of the School of American Ballet and was also in the television special of The Little Mermaid and Snow White.

With Ballet West, Kye’s favorite role to perform was the Winter Fairy in Ashton’s Cinderella. Kye has performed roles choreographed by Jiří Kylián, George Balanchine, Kurt Jooss, Christopher Wheeldon, Caili Quan, Zhongjing Fang, Nicolo Fonte, Michael Smuin and Val Caniparoli. During her free time, Kye works as a competition judge, model for dance brands such as Eleve Dancewear, and is a Bloch Professional.
