Ballet West's I CAN DO program builds confidence through movement
SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — In classrooms across Utah, Ballet West is helping fifth graders discover confidence one dance step at a time.
The nonprofit’s “I Can Do” program brings professional ballet instructors into elementary schools for 25 weeks of dance training. The focus isn’t on turning students into dancers, but on showing them they can rise to a challenge.
“I couldn’t get up on a stage and perform anything before,” said student Thala Arceo. “It helps you rebuild your confidence.”
More than 500 students recently showcased what they’ve learned in a free end of the school year performance for a packed audience.
Moa Tuai, another student in the program, said it’s about more than just the moves. “I love finding out new ways I can dance and working together with other students,” she said.
