Ballet West Artistic Director Adam Sklute is pleased to announce ten company promotions and eight new additions for Ballet West’s 2010-11 season. Annie Breneman and Katherine Lawrence have been promoted to the position of Senior Soloist. Thomas Mattingly has been promoted from Artist to the position of Soloist; Elizabeth McGrath has been promoted from Demi-Soloist to Soloist; Christopher Sellars advances from Demi-Soloist to Soloist; Jacqueline Straughan has been promoted from Demi-Soloist to Soloist; Christopher Anderson has been promoted from Senior Artist to Demi-Soloist; Beau Pearson advances from Artist to Demi-Soloist; Arolyn Williams has been promoted from Artist to Demi-Soloist; and Rex Tilton moves from New Artist to Senior Artist.
Ballet West welcomes two new Soloists for the 2010-11 season – Haley Henderson and Easton Smith, both of whom were leading dancers with San Jose Ballet. Henderson and Smith have spent the last two years performing leading roles in the hit Broadway shows “Dirty Dancing” and “Billy Elliot” and are thrilled to be returning to the world of ballet. Sayaka Ohtaki joins the Company as a Demi-Soloist.
New Artists for 2010-11 include Adrian Fry, a former Soloist with Oregon Ballet Theatre; Jenna Rae Herrera, a former Ballet West II member and supplemental dancer for Ballet West’s current season; and Kuei-Hsien Chu, a former dancer with London Festival Ballet, and most recently, New Jersey Ballet Company. Elizabeth Weldon from Orlando Ballet joins as an Apprentice II, and Kathryn Meeusen from the Carolina Ballet joins as an Apprentice I.
Adam Sklute is excited to announce the return next year of Principal Guest Artist Sara Webb for February’s production of “The Sleeping Beauty.” Principal Artist Romi Beppu will perform exclusively in the Spring 2011 program “Bolero.”
New Additions to Ballet West II
For the 2010-11 season, Ballet West’s training company Ballet West II welcomes Salt Lake City’s own Ryan Sargent from the Ballet West Academy; Ronald Tilton, brother of Senior Artist Rex Tilton and a trainee from San Franciso Ballet School; and Beckanne Sisk from The Rock School in Philadelphia, Sklute’s recent discovery from the Youth America Grand Prix.
At the conclusion of its 2009-10 season, Ballet West will bid a fond farewell to Soloist Kate Crews and Demi-Soloist Victoria Lock; Artists John Frazer, Megan Furse, David Kim, Aaron Orlowski and Josey Silva; and Ballet West II members Robert Goodman, Stephen King and Kaleigh Schock.
