An Open Call to Artists: Shoe In 2012
Ballet West presents the 4th Annual Shoe-In,
a juried art competition. The event is a collaborative effort between
Ballet West and local artists to bring more awareness and focus to the vibrant
arts community in Utah. For the 2011/12 year we invite Artists to submit
works in a variety of mediums including photography, ceramic, wood, metal and
print. All pieces should be inspired by
the art of ballet and more specifically the central concept of the pointe shoe of which each participating
artist is offered a pair.
Shoe-In Art pieces are displayed at
performances and other venues throughout the Salt Lake Valley. In the spring all works are juried by a panel
of local art professionals and the first place winner is awarded a cash prize
of $500, second place $300, and third place $200. Pieces are for sale to
the public with proceeds going towards Ballet West’s education and outreach
initiatives, extensive programs developed to share the art of dance with Utah’s
students and educators. Shoe-In Artists are provided with exposure of their
work to Ballet West patrons, in addition to print and website promotion, event
and performance tickets, the opportunity to win a cash prize, and a cooperative
philanthropic experience for the larger arts community.
