Ballet West Travels From Coast to Coast: Whirlwind Tour Begins at Esteemed New York City Center
Submitted by jfisher on September 3, 2009 - 11:08am
Ballet West Artistic Director Adam Sklute is pleased to announce that the Company will embark on a tour that literally takes the Ballet West Artists from coast to coast.
The tour begins at New York City Center, marking Ballet West’s first return to New York since 1981. Following on the heels of rave reviews from The New York Times for The Treasures of the Ballets Russes, Ballet West has been invited to appear at New York City Center as part of its 2009 Fall for Dance Festival. The Company is one of eight that will pay tribute to the Ballets Russes’ extraordinary contribution to the arts, performing Bronislava Nijinska’s Les Biches on Wednesday, September 30 and Thursday, October 1. At almost the same time, four other dancers from the company will travel to Laguna Beach, Calif. to perform Ulysses Dove’s Red Angels along with The Black Swan and Le Corsaire pas de deux on Friday, October 2 and Saturday, October 3 as part of of CaDance’s Laguna Dance Festival.
"It is an honor to be invited to perform at New York City Center after more than 20 years and to take part in commemorating the famed Ballets Russes,” said Ballet West Artistic Director Adam Sklute. "I am also proud that we will open the Laguna Dance Festival and with such a fierce work as Ulysses Dove’s ‘Red Angels’. It is a thrill for us to once again have the opportunity to be cultural ambassadors for our great state of Utah.”
