Breaking Pointe

You’ve seen them on stage, now see them behind the curtain! This month Ballet West will make its television debut in The CW’s highly-anticipated Breaking Pointe docudrama. We’re all so thrilled! Filmed during the 2011-2012 season, this show promises to captivate audiences with a behind-the-scenes view of life as a professional dancer.

The show is scheduled to premier Thursday May 31 at 7:00 PM (Mountain Standard Time) on The CW. (Channels 15 or 30 for the Salt Lake area. Episodes will also be rebroadcast each following Monday at the same time.) Casting producers for the show considered some 15 companies before settling on our very own Ballet West.  The show focuses on the physicality and art of ballet, while highlighting the social interactions and drama that often accompany a tightly knit group of dancers.

  1. Oh my gosh, I’m SO excited for the premier tonight!

  2. Really great – So proud of everyone at Ballet West!

  3. I’ve been so excited to see Breaking Point since it was announced, and the first episode lived up to it’s billing.
I think every fan of ballet knows that there is a great deal of hard work that goes into each production, but I love that we finally get to see just how difficult it is to accomplish those fleeting hours of perfection.
    Thanks for sharing with us!

  4. I absolutely LOVE this show. I have loved ballet ever since I was a very young girl, and took ballet and pointe (and various other types of dance) from 8 yrs old into college. Watching professionals has always excited me, and seeing now only the beauty of the dance, but the lives they live and the difficulties they face is fascinating. THANK YOU, Ballet West, for sharing your dancers and their lives with us.

  5. I was very discouraged to find that a hockey game ran over into the show this week. I sat down to watch the episode “it’s decision time” that I had recorded on my DVR only to find that the first 45 minutes was a hockey game. I would really love it if this episode could be shown again, although I doubt that will happen anytime soon. Is this episode on the internet somewhere?

  6. Sorry, I think the episode title is actually “which life do I want to lead?”. It is the second episode…

  7. Kelly, the CW plays repeats throughout the week so your dvr can probably catch those if you delete the hockey episode you recorded and set the machine to record the series. Also, full episodes are on the cw website (ww.cwtv.com) for you to watch at your leisure. Click on FULL EPISODES, on the top, and then “Breaking Pointe.”

  8. Rex! PLEASE find a girlfriend who will treat you like you should be treated. Alison isn’t even a good friend! You are beautiful inside & out & do so much better! Love the show! Love Beckanne! She’s awesome!

  9. I am wondering which issue of Dance magazine featured the article about Beckanne Sisk? they mentioned that she was interviewed during tonight’s episode?

  10. Carole, Beckanne’s article will be in the next (July) issue of Dance Magazine.

  11. I really think that this show will be a huge sucess! I think acutal ballet students and other ballet dancers can understand what these characters feel. In my opinion, Beckanne is a wonderful young ballet dancer that will get very far! Allison is also very bright. She shouldn’t let her jealousy towards Beckanne get in between her career. Christina is by far the best dancer in the company in my opinion. She has the beauty, technic, skills, and passion! Katie is also very talented as well eventhough she didn’t get her contract signed, I’m very sure she’ll get a job somewhere else. And to the rest of the men in the company, I’m very impressed! Keep on being the best Ballet West! :D <3

  12. Any chance excited there will be a viewing/celebration party in Salt Lake for the season finale on July 5? So excited for Ballet West!

  13. LOVE THIS SHOW !!!!!!! Beckanne Sisk is AWESOME! There is such a beauty and grace about her when she dances! All the dancers are amazing! I will be sorry when the show is over ! :(

  14. Not that I know of, Anne. All of the dancers are spread around the country right now since we are on our summer break.

  15. Will we get to see parts of the actual ballets on the season finale? Will there be more seasons of this show?

  16. Yes! There should be clips of us performing in the next two episodes. As for another season, we don’t know yet. Depends on if people like you keep watching.

  17. What a wonderful show last nite! I’m so glad I got to see the performances!!!! Everyone did an amazing job! Beckanne was amazing and graceful ! AWESOME!

  18. I LOVE this show!! I danced in college and just watching these dancers has reignited the passion I have inside of me for ballet. I LOVE all of you. Thank you for opening your lives so that we can watch. The most personal comment I want to make is this: don’t pay attention to people who are making judgements on you and even going so far as calling you names. You are brave for doing this show and I admire you. I am a Paramedic and if someone were to watch me work for a few days, they might call me a bitch too because I want things done a certain way. It’s “work”. Ballet is “work”. You have one ballet junkie pulling for all of you!!!! Much Love!!!!

  19. I have been very impressed with Ballet West and the dancers, who are the stars! I really wanted to see more dance! BBC left the door open on the last season… so maybe there will be more. I can only hope! It’s been fun seeing SLC and favorite establishments around the city.

  20. I love this show! I just hope that you will bring us viewers another season. As a dancer from the age of 3 and now a dance teacher with my two daughters as dancers, I am so very impressed with the dancing and the hardwork that goes into your performances. I know the work that we go through to put on a recital once a year and I cannot even imagine the time you put forth for your performances. There is not one dancer that I’ve seen on this show that has any reason to be disappointed in their dancing. ALL of you are amazing; beautiful, graceful, disciplined and hardworking! Not so certain that I like how the last episode ended tonight. I want to know what happened. Please, please bring us another season!!!

  21. It has been an absolute pleasure these last six weeks to catch a glimpse inside Ballet West, and I’ve loved every minute of it. I hope all you dancers are having a good summer, and I’m looking so forward to next season!

  22. Oh my goodness!!! I love, love, love your docudrama!!! I might even have to watch it all over again! Thank you SO much for sharing your lives with us!!! You’ve opened my eyes to the art of ballet! Now, I want to see my local ballet perform and support them! I hope you will share another season with us! I’m hooked!

  23. Yes “Breaking Pointe” is quite a gift from the SLC. Dancers at Ballet West–you are beyond awesome.

  24. It was a great show, really, and I wish the best for the dancers and their future.
I have one question though: I was wondering how much were the dancers acting, and how much was it “real” when the show focused on their personnal life?
For sure the dance was real! I’m really impressed by the talent of Rex and Rooni who seem to flight literraly when they jump!

  25. I love this show sooooo much!!! it is my favorite show ever!! Dance is my passion and Breaking Pointe inspires me to work hard. i really hope there is going to be a new season. will there???????? i would be really sad if there was not. i think it is an amazing reality show and i REALLY hope they will continue!!!
    I <3 BREAKING POINTE!!!!

  26. Had major Breaking Pointe withdrawal last nite!! Thank goodness for DVR! Do you know if there will be another season?

  27. So I just watched all of Breaking Pointe on Hulu. I loved every minute of it. Dancing is once of my favorite things, be it watching a performance or learning some dance moves. My favorites are Ronnie, Rex and Beckanne. Allison reminds me a lot of myself. Because i can be my worst enemy in my pursuit of perfection. I totally get her intensity.

I hope there will be another season and I also hope I get the opportunity to see this amazing company perform.

  28. Just wondering if there is any update on another season of Breaking Pointe?
