The Gala 2012
in
October 27, 2012
Truly an evening to remember, this year's Ballet West Gala features a sampling of "Petite Mort," the sensual ballet that had viewers talking when it appeared on television's "Breaking Pointe," the CW Network's docu-drama about Ballet West. This exclusive, one-night-only program presents exciting previews and highlights—a one-hour show that makes for the perfect evening of breath-taking performances.
“A smartly programmed evening of work showcasing the strengths of the Ballet West family and its repertoire.”

Ballet West’s annual Gala is one of the most celebrated events of the season. The evening begins with an exclusive Gala Performance that is not to be missed! After the performance guests with Gala Event tickets or patron tables will enjoy an elegant evening of dinner and dancing at the Grand America Hotel. Single performance ticket holders will enjoy a decadent dessert reception immediately following the performance at the Capitol Theatre. Proceeds from this event will support Ballet West’s diverse artistic programs, educational programs and outreach efforts.
This year’s Gala will also include an incredible display of support and dedication as members of the Ballet West board doll up and dance in the first ever “Dancing For Our Stars” competition of the night. Five men and five women from the board and Premiere Donor Club have been paired with professionals to compete in one of four dances: Fox Trot, Tango, Swing, Cha-Cha. They’ll compete for votes from the audience and rankings from the judges. Can’t come to the event to vote for your favorite participant? Go here to see the list of participants and vote in advance to show your support.
Join us for an evening of dance, fine food, and entertainment!

The Program
Ballet West’s annual gala opens with a Defile performance by The Ballet West Academy, celebrating all levels of the official ballet school. The line-up also features a new work for Ballet West II – Without Fall, choreographed by Principal Artist and Ballet West II Director Christopher Ruud. The evening continues with the Second Movement of Jiri Kylian’s Petite Mort, a sensual work of genius that made its Utah debut on Ballet West’s 2012 spring program, followed by a Pas de Deux from Marius Petipa’s La Esmerelda, set to music by Cesare Pugni. A breathtaking Pas de Deux from George Balanchine’s Diamonds follows, complete with the music of Tchaikovsky. Ballet West closes this sumptuous show with Nicolo Fonte’s rhythmic and pulsating Bolero, set to the iconic music of Maurice Ravel.
