KATE CREWS - Chicago, Illinois

This is Kate's ninth season with Ballet West. Kate started her training with Caryl Maxwell Classical Ballet, spending her summers training with The Pacific Northwest Ballet School. In 1996, Kate joined The Kansas City Ballet, where she danced for five years, performing works of George Balanchine, Todd  Bolender and Margo Sappington.  Since joining Ballet West in 2000, Kate has danced such leading roles as, Lilac Fairy in The Sleeping Beauty, Myrthe in Jonas Kåge’s Giselle, The Lark in Bruce Mark's Lark Ascending, A Woman From His Past in Antony Tudor’s Lilac Garden, Hippolyta in Balanchine’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and a principal role in Butler's Carmina Burana. Kate also enjoyed performing Lady Capulet in the world premiere of Jonas Kåge's Romeo and Juliet and The Snow Queen in Willam Christensen's The Nutcracker. Last season Kate added Ulysess Dove's Red Angels, Twyla Twarp's Nine Sinatra Songs and Balanchine's Serenede to her list of favorite ballets. Kate was honored to be chosen to dance the role of Dark Angel from Serenede at the Kennedy Center last June.  In addition to her commitment to Ballet West, Kate is the guest principal artist at AVA Ballet Theater, teaches yoga at Centered City Yoga in Salt Lake City and teaches ballet at LeRay's Dance Unlimited in Layton, Utah.
